DESIGN & BUILD PARTNERING

Community self-build and design-build are powerful, collaborative forms of project delivery. Anderson Inge has been working with the Rural Studio design-build program in Alabama for the last decade with the delivery of bespoke workshops enabling self-build community buildings of significant scale.

A range of methods are taught for designing, modeling and testing structural concepts. These usually focus on combining analytic methods with physical testing, undertaking at appropriate stages quantitative testing of small-scale models, materials testing, and destructive testing of one-to-one building components and structural bents.

Each of the completed projects shown here was finally designed and built by various local self-build teams, and the rich integrated structural strategy that underpins them was borne out of and enabled by the workshops.
